Η εφεύρεση που ακολουθήθηκε από τη γρήγορη ανάπτυξη του λογισμικού υπολογιστών έφερε έναν αντίκτυπο στη βιομηχανία εφαρμογής συγκροτημάτων ηλεκτρονικών υπολογιστών. Το λογισμικό, όπως καθορίζεται από τους διαφορετικούς εμπειρογνώμονες υπολογιστών, είναι ένα πρόγραμμα, μια ρουτίνα, ή μια συμβολική γλώσσα που χειρίζεται τη λειτουργία του υλικού υπολογιστών και εποπτεύει άμεσα τη λειτουργία της. The advent of the second genre of computer software which is the assembly language changed the manipulation of the computer function. In this genre, the 0s and 1s sequence is now converted into human words.

What C++ and other advanced programs are using nowadays is what we call the high level language or HLL. The machine codes are now converted into human-sounding words and syntax. The computer understands the HLL through an electronic compiler which translates HLL into either machine or assembly language. Most of the software nowadays makes use of the third genre.
